A Neck Hump is also known as a Dowager’s Hump or a Buffalo Hump.

Quite often a faulty posture can cause a neck hump, when small intervertebral joints (called facet joints) located between last cervical vertebra and first thoracic vertebra become irritated, causing inflammation.
As a result, the tissue on the root of the neck become swollen, giving the hump appearance.

Women are more susceptible to this condition as their necks are generally more flexible. Therefore the chance of facet joint restrictions in the last segment is higher.

Thankfully, it is swiftly reversible with specific osteopathic neck manipulations and if maintained with the right exercises.
